Asteroid Day establishes Headquarters in Luxembourg

The Government of Luxembourg and executives of Asteroid Day have announced on April 14th the selection of Luxembourg as the official headquarters for the Asteroid Day organization. The announcement was made during an official tour of Silicon Valley space organizations by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Guillaume of Luxembourg and a delegation led by Étienne Schneider, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Economy of Luxembourg.

Asteroid Day is a United Nations’ sanctioned event dedicated to the education and awareness of asteroids, and in particular the protection of Earth from dangerous impacts.

  1. At the Paris Air Show in Le Bourget on June 21, 2017, the ESA announced Europe’s first innovation competition on space exploration, the “Space Exploration Masters”. The Luxembourg Ministry of the Economy and its SpaceResources.lu initiative feature a special prize in this competition, focused on ideas targeting the utilization of space resources.

At the 2017 Paris Air Show in Le Bourget, Luxembourg’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Economy Etienne Schneider and ESA Director General, Jan Wörner, signed a joint statement on future activities concerning missions to the asteroids, related technologies and space resources exploration and utilization.
